from Marianne on 06/26/2015 11:14 AMMany spices come from abroad and need special processing and mixtures; we have to buy them in groceries, supermarkets, or specialised stores.
But we often forget the native herbs and vegetables of our regions, which can be grown in gardens or pots or, for some, even found in nature, or bought directly from farms and vegetable growers; quite a few can be used as spices, without complicated processing or preparation. Onions, garlic, peppers, for instance, are a classic ingredient of many European recipes, as much as parsley, lovage, chives, basilicum, cumin, thyme, rosemary, tarragon, sage, chervil, dill, laurel, lavender, mint, lemon balm, etc., etc. - just to cite a few.
