not really. I know a female with a grip like a vice, and man with a hand like a sponge. I didnt like both, but that has nothing to do with their hand shake ...

Yes. You can tell a bit a bit them by how they shake your hand.

A weak hand shake is not a good way of giving a first impression.

I've had a few people squeeze my hand so hard I had to jerk away...

I am guessing these people are just jerks.

not really IMO, my ex had a great handshake but he still was an abuser but no one knew how he was at home. Including him, I have still had many of a person look me in the eye & still lie, these people learn these behaviors & then use them against you.

I think you can.  A strong handshake to me indicates confidence.  There is nothing worse than a limp handshake.

Ever notice a politican's handshake?  They limply take your hand, but are looking over your shoulder to the next opportunity.  My dad always said to look someone squarely in the eye when you take their hand, then shake it like you're earnest.....

I agree, you can't really tell.  Some folks just don't realize they don't have a firm handshake.  Then there are the "bone crushers" and it hurts especially if you have arthritic hands.

Great question.  Glad to see you found us ex-pats here!

Yes and No. With some you can tell by a weak handshake and no eye contact that that they are uncomfortable with people in general, but with others it may mean nothing and you need to know them for awhile to see that they have a strong character but are not into the preliminaries of introductions. No one handshake is a indicator of the person.
